The commencement ceremony for the graduating class of the Master´s Degree in Governance and Leadership from Escuela de Gobierno and Universidad de Occidente was held last Friday, July 26th.
A group of five professionals were awarded their Magister degree after completing two years of higher education on the functioning of the Guatemalan State and the leadership skills and values needed by the country’s new leaders.
Hugo Maul, President of Escuela de Gobierno, noted during his evening speech that “Escuela de Gobierno is committed to academic excellence, ethical training and the professional quality of its graduates. We are convinced of the importance of the education of future members of the government for the transformation of Guatemala.”.
The student Victor Enrique Lima Polanco gave a graduation speech, in which he reflected on the reason why they chose Escuela de Gobierno to complete their higher education: “I want to believe that Guatemala can be a better country and I am committed to this. Escuela de Gobierno gave me the tools to better understand what the country’s problems are and what the routes to solve them might be.”. Additionally, he reminded his classmates of the commitment they acquired as students of that institution: “We have the obligation to once again dignify the political class of our country; to bring our knowledge to the public sector so that we modernize the State; and to fight to end corruption, especially in our work units.”.
During the event, the students were accompanied by their families and friends who recognize the effort put forth in achieving their academic goals.
